Jan. 6 (Lunar calendar) will be the 91th birthday of Rev. Sun Myung Moon, the most controversial, yet most successful religious leader of our history.
Love him or hate him, Rev. Moon had a major impact on the course of events that the world is still feeling today and is yet to discover. To mark Rev. Moon's birthday, his Peace Federation has produced a series of events bringing dignitaries from around the world from the high ranks of religion, politics, science and NGO leadership.
We can remember some of the lightest and heaviest moments of the Moon operations throughout the years. Yet, today looking at the foundation he has made, one cannot but recognize his heart and utter investment for the sake of World Peace. And that is precisely what world leaders recognize in him - his fruits.

In a proclamation to the world Rev. Moon announced that in two years will shine a new era of peace and prosperity. "God is warning us that He will no longer tolerate separation and division." The time is coming, when the spiritual and physical world will be linked as never before. The immoral secular traditions will go to extinction, and all of humanity will become one family through inter-cultural marriages .
In his words, his "projects will bind the world together as one village. They will tear down the man-made walls of race, culture, religion and country, and establish the kingdom of the peaceful, ideal world that has been God’s cherished desire."
As national, religious, and ethnic conflicts divide peoples around the globe, the imperative of building bonds of reconciliation and understanding takes on greater urgency. As Bahá'u'lláh said it, "So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth." Rev. Moon's life long work and strive is to unify the world.

I read about the Unification Church founder and the Moonie groups being favored by George W. Bush and hundreds of famous leaders from around the world. That sounds like contradiction to me. I found that famous religious leaders also respect and support him, so what is a Moonie, who are the Moonies, who is Rev. Moon? Sun Myung Moon and his Unification Church are probably best known in America for their huge weddings, where hundreds or thousands of couples are married in Mass Weddings.
